SREE DENA BHAGATH SEVA TRUST, established in December 2015, is a KARNATAKA-based NGO driven by the unwavering belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive. We work tirelessly to empower underprivileged communities by tackling the root causes of poverty and inequality. Our multifaceted approach focuses on education as the cornerstone of progress, offering scholarships and after-school tutoring to bridge financial gaps and bolster academic success. We recognize the importance of vocational training in equipping individuals with in-demand skills for sustainable careers, allowing them to build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Beyond education, SREE DENA BHAGATH SEVA TRUST understands the interconnectedness of well-being. We organize medical camps and provide access to essential healthcare services, ensuring the physical health of the communities we serve. Furthermore, we alleviate immediate needs through food and clothing distribution programs, offering a lifeline to those facing hunger and hardship. Our commitment extends to actively collaborating with the communities themselves through development initiatives. This collaborative approach helps us identify and address their specific needs, whether it’s improving infrastructure or ensuring greater access to basic necessities. We believe in the power of collective action, fostering a spirit of self-reliance and community ownership over solutions. Ultimately, SREE DENA BHAGATH SEVA TRUST aspires to create a ripple effect of positive change, where empowered individuals become agents of progress within their communities, paving the way for a more just and equitable society for all.

I, Sri Denabhagat Guruji was born on 20th March, 1972 in Rekhalagere Tanda, Challakere Taluku, Chitradurga District, Karnataka into a middle class agriculturist family. After growing up in this beautiful rural atmosphere, I got trained as a teacher and taught languages at a private high school for about 10 years at places like Madikeri and Bengaluru. So I have good experience of both rural and urban environments. When we were children, we used to listen to the beautiful chirpy sounds of little birds on the tree tops in front of our house; the trees provided cool shelter to all; a rivulet flows by our village; those days, you could see greenery all around. It lent a wonderful feel. Though poor, people were rich in culture. Community based cultural activities, sports, plays used to be organised regularly. These bound the entire village together. In April 1999 I arrived at our village from Madikeri to our village. Next day I proceeded towards our land. We owned six acres of land at about six kilometres distance from our village. It was about 11.00 am when I reached the destination. All along, it was very hot as the sun was scorching. Earlier both the sides of the entire road to our land used to be lined up with trees. However today I found there were no trees, no animals, no chirpy sounds of birds…! I was very thirsty and nowhere could I find a drop of water. It was as if I was walking on a furnace. I could see the air particles blazing in the hot sun! In about 10-15 years what drastic changes have taken place! If this continues, what may be the future!

This incident made such an impact on me that, I decided then and there to leave my teaching job and plant one crore trees in my life time. I wanted to bring back the lost greenery. In the evening I went back to my village and told my close friends of my idea. They laughed at me and said, ‘do not spoil your life by leaving your job; educated villagers are going to cities seeking jobs; on the other hand you are talking of leaving your job and coming back to village.’ But I was determined. However once I started to plan my action, several challenges cropped up. Where would I plant the trees? How to take care? If I plant the saplings on the road-side, animals would eat them up. In vacant lands, they would dry up without water. So I thought of planting them in our own land. When I approached Sri Gopalakrishna, legislator from Molakalmooru, and explained it to him, he laughed but wished me all the best. He recommended my case for a tube well under ‘Ganga Kalyana Yojane.’ It took two years to happen. Today there are about 3000 Teak, Mangoes, Tamarind, Bamboo, Neem trees standing tall in six acres of land. There are water tanks constructed for cattle. Along with this, I went on planting some five thousand trees in the schools surroundings and road-sides. All along, I concentrated both on my secular and spiritual activities. In 2005 I was initiated by Guruji Dr. Sri Saraswathi Vasudevananada Swamiji of Sri Raja Vidya Yogashrama at Rayadurga (Andhrapradesh). Then I wandered many mutts, caves, Himalayas, great spiritual centres like Varanasi and Hrishikesh in search of enlightenment. Eventually, I experienced the ultimate bliss. However, one crore plantation dream was still haunting me.
